The 2024 Prophet's Rock Sophora Pinot Noir is an exceptional single-vineyard Pinot Noir from the Kopuwai Delta Vineyard in the Pisa sub-region of Central Otago. This inaugural release showcases a warm, glacially formed site of fine schist gravels overlooking the Clutha River, producing a wine of remarkable purity and finesse. Handpicked fruit is wild fermented with minimal extraction before maturing for 11 months in French oak, 20% new. The nose is beautifully perfumed, offering red cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry layered with rose petals, mountain herbs, blood orange and crushed stone.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with silky, fine-grained tannins, vibrant natural acidity and striking mineral precision. Bright red berry fruit is complemented by savoury herbs and subtle spice, leading to a long, elegant finish with exceptional purity and balance. Delicate yet deeply expressive, this is a beautifully crafted Central Otago Pinot Noir that promises outstanding ageing potential.
