The 2024 Domaines Leflaive Mâcon-Verzé La Jobeline is a vibrant and elegant single-vineyard Chardonnay that captures the freshness and precision of the western slopes of the Verzé valley. Sourced from a steep, east-facing clay-limestone hillside planted between 2007 and 2020 and farmed biodynamically, La Jobeline is vinified in a combination of stainless steel, concrete tanks, large oak foudres and 600-litre barrels, followed by extended lees ageing to preserve purity while adding subtle texture and complexity.
The bouquet is immediately expressive, revealing aromas of lemon zest, white peach, crisp pear and green apple, intertwined with white blossom, crushed chalk and delicate hints of wet stone. With aeration, subtle notes of almond, fresh cream and a touch of flint emerge, adding depth without overshadowing the wine’s bright fruit profile. The palate is energetic and finely balanced, offering layers of citrus, orchard fruits and ripe nectarine framed by lively acidity and a distinct saline minerality. A gentle creaminess from lees ageing provides texture, while the finish is long, pure and refreshing, lingering with notes of citrus peel, oyster shell and crushed limestone.
Approachable in its youth for its vibrant fruit and freshness, the 2024 La Jobeline also possesses the structure to develop further complexity over the next 5–8 years. It is an excellent companion to freshly shucked oysters, grilled prawns, pan-seared scallops, roast chicken with herbs, or creamy goat’s cheese, where its mineral precision and lively acidity shine.
