The 2023 Greywacke Chardonnay is a beautifully crafted Marlborough Chardonnay from New Zealand, made by renowned winemaker Kevin Judd. Sourced primarily from low-yielding Mendoza Clone vineyards, the fruit was hand-picked, whole-bunch pressed and fermented with indigenous yeasts in French oak barriques (20% new). The wine spent 11 months on lees with full malolactic fermentation, creating a style that balances richness with precision. The nose is layered with aromas of lemon, grapefruit and stone fruit, complemented by notes of crème anglaise, praline, flint and toasted brioche.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with a creamy, textured mouthfeel and vibrant natural acidity. Flavours of lemon curd, white peach and nectarine are supported by hints of tarragon, roasted nuts and subtle oak, finishing long, savoury and mineral-driven. The combination of ripe fruit, lees complexity and flinty freshness makes this a refined Chardonnay with excellent ageing potential.
Ben's Recommendation: At Wine More Cellars, this is an outstanding choice for lovers of premium New Zealand Chardonnay with richness, freshness and Burgundian-inspired elegance. Pair it with grilled lobster, seared scallops, roast chicken or creamy mushroom risotto. Enjoy now after a short decant, or cellar for 8–10 years to reveal even greater complexity and finesse.
