The 2023 Domaine Thierry et Pascale Matrot Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Les Combettes is a refined Chardonnay from a prized vineyard bordering Meursault in the Côte de Beaune. The nose shows green apple, pear and greengage plum with white flowers, chalk, subtle spice and a distinct stony mineral character.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied and finely textured, with vibrant acidity balancing ripe orchard fruit and citrus. The wine spends around 15 months on lees in seasoned oak followed by three months in stainless steel, bringing depth without excessive oak influence. The finish is long, saline and chalky, with excellent precision and persistence.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is a great choice for Chardonnay drinkers who enjoy serious white Burgundy with mineral structure, restrained oak and excellent ageing potential. Best from around 2026, with strong development potential through the 2030s. Pair with scallops, lobster, grilled snapper, roast chicken, mushroom dishes or creamy seafood.
