The 2023 Domaine Thierry et Pascale Matrot Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Les Chalumeaux is a finely structured Chardonnay from an east-facing, limestone and marl-rich vineyard near Blagny. The nose shows white peach and orchard fruit with spring flowers, lime blossom, toasted hazelnut and chalky mineral notes.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied and precise with bright acidity, ripe yellow fruit and a firm mineral backbone. Whole-bunch pressing and indigenous-yeast fermentation are followed by 12 months on lees in seasoned oak and six months in tank, building texture while keeping the wine fresh and focused. The finish is long, saline and finely detailed.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is a great choice for Chardonnay drinkers who enjoy serious Puligny-Montrachet with freshness, restrained oak and limestone-driven minerality. Enjoy with some air when young or cellar into the 2030s for further development. Pair with scallops, lobster, grilled snapper, roast chicken or creamy seafood dishes.
