The 2023 Comeyre is one of the rarest and most sought-after wines in the L’Anglore portfolio, produced exclusively in magnum format from a tiny parcel of ninety-year-old Carignan vines planted by Eric Pfifferling’s grandfather. The old-vine Carignan is complemented by Grenache, Clairette and Bourboulenc, creating a wine that combines remarkable depth with the effortless drinkability that defines the domaine’s style. Production is extremely limited, and the wine has quickly become a cult bottling among collectors of natural Rhône wines.

The nose is intensely expressive and distinctive, opening with aromas of wild raspberry, red plum and crushed blackberry, followed by notes of rose petals, dried herbs and sweet Mediterranean spice. With aeration, more complex nuances emerge, including blood orange, black tea, lavender and wet stone. Despite its concentration, the wine remains remarkably lifted and perfumed, reflecting both the old-vine fruit and the freshness of the 2023 vintage.

On the palate, Comeyre possesses a beautiful combination of density and energy. Layers of ripe red berries, pomegranate and dark cherry are framed by vibrant acidity and silky tannins. The old Carignan contributes a subtle savoury edge and mineral tension, while the Clairette and Bourboulenc bring brightness and finesse. The texture is seamless and refined, carrying through to a long, saline finish marked by floral lift, spice and crushed stone. The wine feels both generous and weightless, a hallmark of the finest L’Anglore cuvées.

Compared with Nizon and Pierre Chaude, Comeyre is often the most elusive and idiosyncratic wine in the range. It emphasizes aromatic complexity, salinity and elegance rather than sheer power, while retaining the concentration expected from such ancient vines. Although already captivating in its youth, it should develop beautifully over the next 7–10 years, gaining additional savoury and tertiary complexity while preserving its vibrant core of fruit.
