The 2023 Blank Canvas Abstract Sauvignon Blanc Three Rows is a distinctive, small-batch Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc created by Matt Thomson and Sophie Parker-Thomson MW. Sourced from the Three Rows vineyard in the Southern Valleys, the wine challenges traditional expectations of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc through wild fermentation, extended lees contact and partial barrel ageing. The result is a more textured, complex and site-driven expression that highlights the serious potential of the variety.
The nose reveals grapefruit, preserved lemon and white peach alongside notes of flint, struck match, fresh herbs and subtle savoury spice. The palate is layered and textural, combining vibrant citrus fruit with saline minerality, bright acidity and gentle phenolic grip. Complex yet beautifully balanced, it offers far greater depth and sophistication than a conventional Sauvignon Blanc while retaining freshness and energy.
