The 2024 Blank Canvas Reed Vineyard Chardonnay is one of Marlborough’s leading single-vineyard Chardonnays, crafted by Matt Thomson and Sophie Parker-Thomson MW from the Reed family vineyard in Central Wairau. Situated on an elevated terrace near the confluence of the Wairau and Waihopai Rivers, the site consistently produces fruit with exceptional concentration, natural acidity and structure. Hand-picked, wild fermented and matured for 11 months in French oak puncheons, the wine showcases the precision and complexity that have become hallmarks of the Blank Canvas range.
The nose reveals white peach, grapefruit and citrus blossom layered with flint, toasted hazelnut and subtle struck-match complexity. Powerful yet beautifully controlled, the palate combines ripe stone fruit with creamy texture, vibrant acidity and a long mineral finish. Shanteh Wale awarded the wine 95 points, while Cameron Douglas MS scored it 94 points, praising its concentration, energy and ageing potential. Richly textured yet remarkably precise, it is a Chardonnay of both power and finesse.

A superb Marlborough Chardonnay that comfortably competes with premium examples from Burgundy and Australia. Complex, mineral and beautifully balanced, it pairs perfectly with lobster, scallops, roast chicken, creamy seafood dishes and roast pork. While already impressive with a decant, it will continue to evolve gracefully through 2032–2035.
