The 2022 Ca'Marcanda Camarcanda Bolgheri DOP is the flagship wine of Angelo Gaja's Ca'Marcanda estate, showcasing the remarkable potential of Bolgheri's coastal terroir. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc sourced from limestone- and clay-rich vineyards in Castagneto Carducci, each variety is fermented separately before the wine is matured for 12 months in French oak, followed by six months in concrete and extended bottle ageing. The nose is refined and expressive, revealing blackcurrant, blueberry and raspberry layered with blood orange, Mediterranean herbs, violet and subtle spice. Awarded 95 points by James Suckling, 95 points by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 95 points by Wine Spectator and 96 points by Vinous, it is one of the finest releases of Camarcanda to date.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with silky, polished tannins, vibrant acidity and exceptional mineral precision. Concentrated dark berry fruit is framed by savoury herbs, graphite and finely integrated oak, leading to a long, elegant finish with remarkable freshness and persistence. Powerful yet beautifully balanced, this is a world-class Bolgheri red built to reward decades of cellaring.
