The 2022 Domaine Sylvain Cathiard Gevrey-Chambertin is a characterful 100% Pinot Noir from Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits, combining ripe fruit with earthy complexity and a finely structured palate. Although the domaine is best known for Vosne-Romanée, Sébastien Cathiard introduced this Gevrey-Chambertin with the 2019 vintage, adding another village expression to the family’s range. The wine comes from a single leased parcel in Champs Francs, a vineyard name that does not appear on the label. It offers an interesting opportunity to explore Cathiard’s approach through Gevrey’s savoury character, with the emphasis on fruit clarity, texture and balance.
The 2022 offers strawberry, redcurrant and plum, with floral notes, earth and gentle spice adding complexity. Jasper Morris MW awarded an early assessment of 89–91 Points, highlighting its pure strawberry fruit and clean, persistent finish. Allen Meadows awarded 88–91 Points, noting its earthy aromatics, supple texture and balanced structure. Neal Martin awarded 88–90 Points, describing fresh red fruit and floral lift, while observing that the 40% new oak contributed density and would benefit from further integration. Bill Nanson’s contemporary tasting also emphasised its taut shape and deceptively long finish. This is a youthful village Gevrey with inviting fruit and enough structure to warrant patience.
