The 2022 Armand Heitz Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Monts Luisants is a distinctive Premier Cru Pinot Noir from Morey-Saint-Denis in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits, coming from one of the highest and coolest vineyard sites in the village. Monts Luisants climbs the upper slope above Clos de la Roche Grand Cru, close to the boundary with Latricières-Chambertin, giving it some truly exceptional neighbours. At this elevation the soils become thin, stony and strongly limestone-influenced, while the cooler position slows ripening and helps preserve perfume and freshness. Monts Luisants is also unusual within the Côte de Nuits because the climat has historically been planted to both red and white varieties. Armand Heitz's Pinot Noir expression captures the fascinating position of Morey-Saint-Denis between Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny - combining structure and savoury complexity with considerable aromatic finesse.
The generous 2022 Burgundy vintage produced an especially attractive expression of this high-altitude terroir. The wine shows raspberry, red cherry and cranberry alongside dried flowers, liquorice, juniper, smoke, herbs and subtle tobacco. The palate is fluid and beautifully textured, with ripe red fruit supported by fine tannins, fresh acidity and a persistent mineral backbone. Burgundy Report found the 2022 particularly successful, describing a broad and complex aromatic profile, excellent texture and fluidity, noting that while the oak is still apparent in youth, it should integrate with another two or three years in bottle, concluding that the wine was "absolutely delicious."
