The 2021 Tavel Vintage is widely regarded as one of the most profound rosés produced by Domaine L’Anglore. Sourced from a single parcel of approximately 70-year-old vines planted to Grenache, Cinsault, Clairette, Carignan and Mourvèdre on sandy soils, it is made only in the best vintages and undergoes extended élevage in demi-muid, giving it uncommon structure and longevity for a rosé.
In the glass, the wine displays a deep raspberry-red hue, closer to a very light red wine than a Provençal rosé. The nose is intensely aromatic, revealing wild strawberry, ripe raspberry, red cherry and pomegranate, layered with rose petals, dried herbs, blood orange zest and subtle sweet spices. With aeration, notes of garrigue, mint, tea leaf and crushed stone emerge, adding further complexity.
The palate is remarkably energetic despite its concentration. Juicy red fruits dominate initially, followed by flavours of blood orange, cranberry, rosehip and savoury herbs. Fine tannins and vibrant acidity provide structure, creating a wine that sits beautifully between rosé and red wine. The texture is silky yet substantial, carrying through to a long, mineral-laced finish marked by salinity, spice and floral persistence.
Unlike many rosés intended for immediate consumption, Tavel Vintage is conceived as a vin de garde. The old vines, low-intervention winemaking and extended ageing contribute to its ability to develop over many years, gradually revealing more savoury, earthy and tertiary nuances while retaining freshness and elegance.
