The 2018 Marc Brédif Vouvray Classic Museum Release is a beautifully matured expression of Chenin Blanc from one of the Loire Valley’s most historic producers. Marc Brédif has been synonymous with fine, age-worthy Vouvray since the domaine was established in 1893, with the estate particularly renowned for producing Chenin Blanc that develops remarkable complexity with bottle age. The Classic cuvée is made from 100% Chenin Blanc, grown on the clay and chalk soils of Vouvray, and the extended bottle maturation of this Museum Release allows the wine to move beyond its youthful freshness into a more layered and expressive style.
The nose is beautifully expressive, revealing aromas of ripe pear, yellow apple, quince and white flowers, layered with grapefruit, citrus peel and delicate honey. With bottle age, more complex notes of lanolin, baked apple, dried flowers, ginger and subtle spice begin to emerge, accompanied by a gentle mineral character. There is a wonderful balance between mature, honeyed richness and the lifted citrus and floral freshness that remains a hallmark of Vouvray Chenin Blanc.
On the palate, it is rich, textured and beautifully vibrant, with flavours of ripe pear, quince, yellow apple and citrus supported by lively acidity and a refined mineral backbone. The wine has a gentle richness that is balanced by refreshing acidity, giving the palate both generosity and precision. Subtle notes of honey, lanolin, baked fruit and spice add further complexity, while the underlying chalky minerality keeps the wine focused and energetic. The finish is long, fresh and harmonious, with lingering citrus, ripe orchard fruit, honeyed notes and delicate mineral freshness. With extended bottle age, the wine has developed considerably more depth while retaining the remarkable acidity that gives mature Vouvray its longevity.
