The 2016 Dog Point Pinot Noir is a mature Marlborough Pinot Noir sourced from clay-rich hillside vineyards, with some vines dating back to 1983. The nose shows red cherry, raspberry and darker berry fruit with dried herbs, smoky spice and savoury, earthy notes. Its combination of mature vines and low yields gives the wine notable concentration while retaining Marlborough freshness.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied and plush with juicy red berry fruit, bright acidity and fine, integrated tannins. The fruit was hand-picked and hand-sorted, with 20% whole bunches included during indigenous-yeast fermentation before 18 months in French oak, 35% new. The finish is savoury, spicy and persistent.
