The 2008 Domaine de Montille Volnay Premier Cru Les Champans is a mature, classically styled Pinot Noir from one of Volnay’s most renowned vineyards. Aromas of redcurrant, dried cherry and raspberry are joined by violet, tobacco, forest floor, gentle game and savoury spice, reflecting the graceful development of a well-cellared Burgundy.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied, sappy and finely structured, with fresh acidity carrying its mature red fruit and earthy complexity. The tannins have softened with age, while the naturally firm character of the 2008 vintage provides definition and persistence. The finish is savoury and refined, with lingering red fruit, dried flowers and sous-bois.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent opportunity to experience mature Premier Cru Volnay from one of Burgundy’s most traditional domaines. Stand the bottle upright before serving and open carefully to manage sediment; extended decanting is not recommended. Enjoy now through 2030, subject to storage history. Ideal with roast duck, quail, veal, mushroom dishes, truffle or aged soft cheese.
