VOLNAY

Volnay is one of the most prestigious villages in the Burgundy region of eastern France, located in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune. The appellation is renowned for producing some of the most elegant and refined Pinot Noir wines in Burgundy.

Unlike some neighbouring villages that produce both red and white wines, Volnay is dedicated almost entirely to Pinot Noir. The wines are celebrated for their perfumed aromatics, silky texture, and finesse, often showing notes of red cherry, raspberry, violet, and delicate spice.

The vineyards of Volnay are planted on limestone-rich soils with excellent drainage, which help create wines with bright acidity, refined tannins, and remarkable balance. The village is home to several highly regarded Premier Cru vineyards, including Les Caillerets, Clos des Chênes, Champans, and Taillepieds, each producing wines with distinctive character and ageing potential.

Compared to neighbouring Pommard, which is known for more powerful and structured wines, Volnay wines are typically more delicate, floral, and graceful, making them some of the most elegant expressions of Pinot Noir in Burgundy.

Today, Volnay wines are prized by collectors and enthusiasts for their aromatic complexity, finesse, and ability to age beautifully, representing the classic elegance of Côte de Beaune Pinot Noir.
