The 2021 Geoff Weaver Pinot Noir from the cool-climate Lenswood subregion of the Adelaide Hills is a refined, elegant expression that reflects Geoff Weaver’s long-held philosophy of restraint, fragrance, and balance over power.
On the nose, it opens with lifted aromas of ripe cherry, wild strawberry and red plum, complemented by subtle earthy undertones, warm baking spice, dried herbs and a gentle hint of forest floor. Delicate floral notes and understated French oak add further complexity without overwhelming the fruit.
The palate is medium-bodied, supple and finely textured, offering juicy red berry fruit layered with savoury spice and subtle earthy nuances. Fine, drying tannins derived partly from 25% whole-bunch fermentation provide structure, while vibrant natural acidity carries the wine through a long, poised finish. Twelve months of maturation in 50% new French oak barriques lends discreet notes of cedar and spice, enhancing the wine’s complexity while preserving its freshness and purity.
The tiny 2021 crop - just 0.4 kg per vine following recovery from the 2019 bushfires - resulted in exceptional flavour concentration. A mild growing season, healthy fruit and early harvest have produced a Pinot Noir of impressive precision, balance and ageing potential. It drinks beautifully now with decanting but will continue to develop greater savoury complexity over the next 8–12 years.
