Founded in 1986 by Andrea Cortonesi, the boutique winery has become internationally acclaimed for its meticulous vineyard management, traditional winemaking, and outstanding expression of Sangiovese.

Located on the southeastern slopes of Montalcino near Castelnuovo dell'Abate, the estate benefits from an exceptional terroir of galestro, clay, limestone, and rocky soils. The warm, well-exposed vineyards are balanced by cooling breezes that allow Sangiovese to achieve optimal ripeness while preserving freshness, structure, and aromatic complexity.

Uccelliera is best known for its Brunello di Montalcino, crafted entirely from Sangiovese. The wines display aromas of black cherry, red plum, violet, dried herbs, tobacco, leather, spice, and earthy minerality. On the palate, they combine concentrated fruit, refined tannins, vibrant acidity, and remarkable balance, offering both immediate appeal and exceptional ageing potential. With time, the wines develop complex notes of truffle, cedar, balsamic herbs, and forest floor.

Alongside its flagship Brunello, the estate also produces Rosso di Montalcino, Toscana IGT wines, and a small selection of Super Tuscan-style blends. Across the portfolio, the focus remains on purity of fruit, vineyard expression, and producing wines that reflect the unique character of southern Montalcino.

The winery follows a philosophy of sustainable vineyard management, low yields, hand harvesting, and traditional ageing in large Slavonian oak casks, complemented by carefully selected French oak where appropriate. Minimal intervention in the cellar allows each vintage to express its individuality while maintaining the classic style that has become synonymous with Uccelliera.
