The 2023 Domaine des Croix Beaune 1er Cru Les Tuvilains is a powerful and characterful Premier Cru from David Croix, one of Beaune’s most respected winemakers. Sourced from two parcels of 80+ year-old vines planted on clay-rich soils in southern Beaune, the wine is denser and more structured than many of the estate’s other Premier Crus, offering impressive depth and ageing potential.
The nose reveals smoky red berries, black cherry, blood orange and sweet spice, while the palate is layered and concentrated with ripe red and dark fruits, chalky tannins and a distinctive earthy mineral core. Rich and structured rather than delicate, it finishes long, savoury and beautifully persistent. Critics awarded the wine 91–93 points, praising its intensity, old-vine character and serious structure.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A serious Beaune Premier Cru with more power and depth than elegance, making it an excellent choice for lovers of structured Burgundy. Perfect with duck, roast pork, game birds or mushroom dishes. Enjoy from 2028 onwards or cellar confidently through 2042+ for added complexity and finesse.
