The 2019 Koomilya Tempranillo Touriga is a distinctive McLaren Vale red from Stephen Pannell’s Koomilya vineyard. A blend of Tempranillo and Touriga Nacional, it shows blackberry, black cherry and plum with violet, cinnamon, clove, bay leaf and subtle earthy notes.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with concentrated dark fruit, fresh acidity and supple, finely structured tannins. Black cherry and plum are joined by orange rind, cardamom and savoury spice, leading to an energetic, persistent finish. The varieties were naturally co-fermented before maturation in French oak vats.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is a great choice for drinkers who enjoy savoury, medium-bodied McLaren Vale reds with dark fruit, spice and fine tannin structure. The delayed release means it is drinking well now while retaining further cellaring potential. Pair with herb-grilled lamb, beef ribs, slow-cooked meats or chargrilled vegetables.
