The 2019 Clos de la Houssaie Muscadet is a mature Loire Valley white made from Melon de Bourgogne, showing lemon, green apple and pear alongside white flowers, citrus peel and distinctive stony mineral notes. With bottle age, the wine has developed additional savoury and saline complexity, giving it more depth than a young, simple Muscadet while retaining its natural freshness.
On the palate, it is light to medium-bodied and finely textured, with bright acidity supporting layers of citrus, orchard fruit and subtle stone fruit. Lemon and green apple are complemented by pear, dried floral notes and a gentle saline character, while fine mineral flavours provide tension and length. The mature profile brings subtle nutty and savoury nuances through the mid-palate, leading to a dry, focused and persistent finish with lingering citrus, mineral and saline notes.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent choice for Muscadet drinkers who enjoy mature Loire whites with freshness, mineral character and developed savoury complexity. The 2019 vintage is drinking beautifully now, particularly alongside seafood, and should be enjoyed while its balance of freshness and bottle-aged character is at its best. Best enjoyed now or over the next 3–4 years. Serve chilled with oysters, scallop crudo, grilled whiting with lemon, steamed mussels, king prawns, or goat’s cheese and herb tart.
