Lirac

Lirac is a historic wine appellation located in the Southern Rhône Valley, France, on the right bank of the Rhône River opposite the famous Châteauneuf-du-Pape region. Granted AOC status in 1947, Lirac is one of the Rhône Valley’s few appellations authorised to produce red, white and rosé wines, offering impressive diversity and value.

The region’s vineyards are planted on a mix of rolled pebbles (galets roulés), clay and limestone soils, similar to those found in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This terroir allows grapes to ripen fully under the warm Mediterranean climate while maintaining structure and complexity.

Lirac wines are typically blends of classic Southern Rhône varieties. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre dominate the reds and rosés, delivering ripe red and dark fruit flavours with hints of spice and garrigue herbs. White wines are often made from Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Roussanne and Bourboulenc, producing fresh yet textured wines with citrus, stone fruit and floral notes.

Often considered one of the best value appellations in the Rhône Valley, Lirac offers wines with the richness and character of neighbouring regions but at more accessible prices.
