The 2022 Pierre Chaude is widely regarded as one of the most complete and profound red wines in the L’Anglore portfolio. Produced from old-vine Grenache with small proportions of Clairette and Carignan planted on limestone-rich soils in the Lauzes sector near Tavel, it undergoes whole-cluster carbonic maceration followed by approximately 18 months of élevage in tonneau. The wine combines the generosity of the warm 2022 vintage with the remarkable finesse that defines Eric Pfifferling’s winemaking.
The nose is intensely aromatic and layered, opening with wild raspberry, pomegranate and red cherry, followed by notes of lavender, thyme and Mediterranean garrigue. With air, floral nuances become more pronounced, while subtle hints of sweet spice, crushed stone and dried herbs add depth and complexity. Despite its concentration, the aromatics remain lifted and vibrant rather than heavy.
On the palate, Pierre Chaude is remarkably harmonious, balancing ripe fruit with freshness and precision. Juicy red berries, pomegranate and blood orange are framed by velvety tannins and vibrant acidity. The texture is silky and seamless, delivering impressive concentration without sacrificing elegance. Layers of spice, herbs and mineral nuances unfold through the mid-palate, leading to a long and persistent finish marked by fine tannic grip and savoury complexity.
Compared with Le Ruisseau, Pierre Chaude possesses greater depth, structure and ageing potential. It showcases a more serious expression of old-vine Grenache, combining southern Rhône warmth with a level of transparency and finesse that often draws comparisons to fine Burgundy. While already captivating in its youth, the wine should continue to evolve beautifully over the next 5–10 years.
