The 2023 Andre Perret Saint Joseph Les Grisieres is sourced from some of the estate’s oldest Syrah vines, planted on steep, sandy granite slopes around Chavanay in the northern sector of Saint-Joseph. Widely regarded as André Perret’s flagship red, Les Grisières is aged for around 18 months in French oak and consistently delivers greater depth and structure than the domaine’s regular Saint-Joseph, while retaining the elegance and freshness that define Perret’s wines.
The nose reveals blackberry, black cherry, violet and cracked pepper, alongside notes of leather, spice and graphite. The palate is concentrated yet refined, with silky tannins, vibrant acidity and layers of dark fruit framed by savoury granite-driven minerality. Jeb Dunnuck awarded the wine 95 points, praising its finesse, concentration and long ageing potential, while Vinous rated it 91 points and highlighted its spicy persistence and purity.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A serious Saint-Joseph that offers Côte-Rôtie-like complexity at a fraction of the price. Perfumed, structured and beautifully balanced, it pairs superbly with roast lamb, duck, venison, beef fillet and game dishes. Best from 2027 onwards, but capable of evolving gracefully through 2040–2045.
