Coal River Valley
Coal River Valley is one of the most important cool-climate wine regions in Tasmania, located just outside Hobart in the island’s southeast. Benefiting from a relatively dry climate, long sunshine hours, and cooling maritime influences, the region provides ideal conditions for producing elegant, aromatic wines.
Coal River Valley is best known for Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and premium sparkling wine, with vineyards planted on ancient sandstone and clay soils that contribute to structure and minerality. The cool growing season allows grapes to ripen slowly, resulting in wines with vibrant acidity, refined fruit character, and excellent ageing potential.
Today, Coal River Valley is home to some of Tasmania’s most respected producers and has become a key destination for lovers of Tasmanian cool-climate wines.
