The 2016 Château Canon is an exceptional blend of 74% Merlot and 26% Cabernet Franc from Saint-Émilion’s limestone plateau, combining beautifully ripe fruit with precision, freshness and remarkable finesse. A Premier Grand Cru Classé, Canon occupies a privileged site close to the medieval village, where clay over limestone shapes its elegant, mineral-driven style. The growing season brought a rainy spring followed by a hot, dry summer and favourable autumn weather, allowing harvesting to continue into October. Aged for 18 months in French oak, the 2016 captures the estate’s ability to deliver depth and concentration while retaining balance and aromatic lift.
Expect black cherry, plum and black raspberry, complemented by violets, rose petals, chocolate, liquorice and subtle earthy spice. The palate is layered and finely textured, with polished tannins, vibrant freshness and a persistent mineral finish. Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW awarded the wine 98+ Points for The Wine Advocate in November 2018, praising its precision, depth and exceptionally fine tannins. She subsequently awarded 99 Points for The Wine Independent in December 2022, highlighting its expressive fruit and seamless balance.
