CHATEAU CANON
Château Canon is one of the crown jewels of Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux — a Premier Grand Cru Classé (B) estate celebrated for producing wines that combine elegance, precision, and longevity.
Perched on the limestone plateau just west of the medieval village of Saint-Émilion, the château boasts some of the appellation’s finest terroir. Its 34 hectares of vineyards are planted mostly to Merlot (around 70%) and Cabernet Franc (30%), thriving on the chalk and clay soils that impart minerality and finesse to the wines.
Founded in the 18th century, Château Canon derives its name from Jacques Kanon, a naval officer who purchased the property in 1760. The estate later became a benchmark for Right Bank Bordeaux. Since 1996, it has been owned by Chanel, whose stewardship (alongside technical director Nicolas Audebert) has elevated the château to the top tier of Saint-Émilion’s elite.
In both the vineyard and cellar, meticulous attention to detail defines Canon’s approach. Hand-harvesting, small-batch vinification, and judicious oak use create wines that are both refined and expressive. The limestone subsoil lends signature freshness and tension, balancing Merlot’s plush fruit with precision and energy.
