The 2022 HEAD Wines The Blonde Shiraz is a high-altitude Barossa Shiraz sourced from a 1962-planted vineyard in the Eden Valley at around 450 metres elevation. A small 2% addition of Viognier is co-fermented with the Shiraz, adding aromatic lift to dark cherry, boysenberry and plum with dried flowers, pepper, herbs and gentle spice.
On the palate, it is medium-to-full bodied with concentrated berry and plum fruit, fresh acidity and fine, granitic tannins. Eighteen months on fine lees in French oak, with 20% new barrels, adds subtle spice and texture without overwhelming the fruit. The finish is long, savoury and peppery, with a refined structure.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is a great choice for Shiraz drinkers who enjoy elegant, cooler-site Barossa reds with fine tannins and savoury complexity. Enjoy now or cellar through around 2030 for further development. Pair with roast lamb, grilled beef, duck, mushroom dishes or aged cheeses.
