The 2024 F.X. Pichler Riesling Steinertal is a finely detailed Wachau Riesling from the small, south-facing Steinertal vineyard near Loiben. Grown on weathered gneiss soils, it shows mandarin zest, white peach and citrus with delicate florals, subtle honey and a smoky, stony mineral character. Cooling breezes from the nearby forest help give this site its distinctive freshness.
On the palate, it is lean and concentrated with racy acidity, juicy stone fruit and a pronounced saline mineral line. The fruit was hand harvested and fermented in stainless steel before spending nine months on fine lees, building texture while maintaining precision. The finish is long, cool and mineral-driven.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is a great choice for Riesling drinkers who enjoy serious Wachau whites with bright acidity, saline minerality and excellent ageing potential. Enjoy with grilled snapper, seafood, veal schnitzel, roast chicken or goat’s cheese, or cellar for further development.
