The 2006 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is a beautifully developed blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon and 36% Merlot from Pauillac on Bordeaux’s Left Bank. Classified as a Second Growth in 1855, Pichon Comtesse is celebrated for combining Cabernet structure with an especially supple, refined texture. Its vineyards lie close to the Gironde Estuary, on gravel soils over clay and sand, providing the foundation for its distinctive style. The 2006 underwent a particularly strict selection, with only 41% of production entering the grand vin, resulting in a concentrated wine with generous fruit and considerable ageing potential.

Expect blackcurrant, black cherry and plum, layered with cedar, tobacco, chocolate, coffee and subtle smoky notes. Robert Parker awarded the wine 95 Points for The Wine Advocate in February 2009, praising its rich fruit, velvety texture and savoury depth. Antonio Galloni also awarded 95 Points for Vinous in October 2017, highlighting its balance, intensity and class. More recently, Charles Curtis MW awarded 94 Points for Decanter in March 2025, describing an approachable wine with supple tannins, impressive density and a persistent finish. These assessments make a strong case for the 2006 as a particularly successful, ageworthy expression of Pichon Comtesse.
