By Farr is a family-owned winery based in the Moorabool Valley, within the Geelong wine region of Victoria. Founded in 1994 by Gary and Robyn Farr, the operation is now run by the next generation, Nick and Cassie Farr. 

The vineyard sits about 100 km southwest of Melbourne, on a property spanning roughly 130 acres, with about 36 acres under vine.  The soils are complex and varied: ancient river deposits with multiple soil types, including red and black volcanic loam, limestone, quartz gravel, ironstone (buckshot), and sandy loam over clay. Climate is cool and continental, with strong diurnal shifts and influences from winds off the western plains, helping produce fruit that’s balanced, richly flavoured, and suited to subtle, refined wines. 

By Farr is especially known for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which are the leading varietals in its premium tiers. The winery also produces Viognier, Shiraz, and Gamay in smaller amounts.  They have multiple brands or labels under the By Farr umbrella — “By Farr” proper (Gary’s line), “Farr Rising” (Nick’s), and “Irrewarra” among others, each reflecting slightly different vineyard parcels or style focuses. 

In terms of recognition, By Farr has repeatedly won high praise. Their individual wines are consistently sought-after in local.
