The 2022 Champagne Laherte Frères Les Grandes Crayères is a refined grower Champagne from a single, south-facing parcel in Chavot on the southern slopes of Épernay. Made from 100% Chardonnay from mature vines planted in 1965, the wine reflects the vineyard’s chalky, flint and clay soils with remarkable precision and mineral depth. The 2022 vintage shows lemon, green apple and white peach alongside white flowers, citrus peel, chalk and subtle brioche and almond notes. Disgorged in December 2025, extended lees ageing has added further texture and complexity while preserving the wine’s natural freshness.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied and beautifully focused, with vibrant acidity, fine persistent bubbles and layers of citrus, orchard fruit and delicate stone fruit. Lemon and green apple are complemented by white peach, citrus zest and subtle floral notes, while a pronounced chalky and saline mineral character provides tension and length. Gentle brioche, almond and savoury lees notes add depth through the mid-palate without overwhelming the purity of the Chardonnay. The texture is fine and creamy, leading to a dry, long and persistent finish with lingering citrus, chalk, saline and delicate pastry notes.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent choice for Champagne drinkers who enjoy precise, terroir-driven Blanc de Blancs with fine texture, mineral freshness and developed complexity. The 2022 vintage has excellent concentration and acidity, while the extended lees ageing adds depth and subtle pastry character. Best enjoyed now or over the next 6–10 years. Serve chilled with oysters, seared scallops with brown butter, kingfish crudo, butter-poached marron, roast chicken with herbs, or aged Comté.
