2022 Armand Heitz Pommard 1er Cru Rugiens is one of the most prestigious expressions of Pinot Noir from Pommard, a village known for producing some of the most structured and powerful wines in Côte de Beaune . The nose is deep and slightly reserved at first, gradually opening to reveal black cherry, dark berry and plum, layered with violet, earthy spice and subtle mineral notes. Compared to softer Burgundy villages, Rugiens shows more density, depth and savoury intensity.

On the palate, it is powerful yet precise, offering a core of dark fruit, spice and graphite, supported by firm, fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity. The structure is more serious and linear than typical Côte de Beaune reds, with a mineral-driven, slightly iron-like finish. Rugiens is considered one of the top Premier Cru sites in Pommard, historically producing wines of strength, ageing potential and complexity .

Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is exactly the kind of wine we position as a "serious, structured Burgundy" - a clear step up from entry-level Pinot Noir. Compared to Volnay or Chambolle, this is more powerful, earthy and age-worthy, making it ideal for customers who want real structure in Burgundy. The 2022 vintage brings a bit more ripeness and accessibility, but still keeps the classic Pommard backbone. Perfect for customers who enjoy structured Pinot, Nebbiolo or even lighter Bordeaux styles, and best paired with lamb, game or mushroom dishes. Drink with decanting now or cellar for 10–15+ years.
