The 2024 Man O’ War Ironclad Bordeaux Blend is a powerful yet refined red from Waiheke Island, New Zealand, blending 50% Cabernet Franc, 31% Merlot, 12% Petit Verdot and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon. The nose is deep and expressive, showing blackcurrant, cassis and dark plum alongside graphite, cedar, bay leaf, dried herbs and subtle coastal minerality.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and structured with blackberry, damson plum and black cherry supported by fresh acidity and fine maritime tannins. Each parcel was naturally fermented separately before 18 months in 500-litre French oak puncheons, followed by another six months in oak after blending. Thirty percent new French oak contributes spice, toasted cedar and dark chocolate to the long, dry finish.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent choice for Bordeaux blend drinkers who enjoy concentrated dark fruit, fine tannins and savoury complexity. Enjoy now with decanting or cellar for further development. Ideal with grilled steak, roast lamb, slow-cooked beef, mushroom dishes or aged cheeses.
