The 2024 Hughes & Hughes Syrah is a vibrant cool-climate Syrah sourced equally from the Brinktop Vineyard in the Coal River Valley and Kinvarra Vineyard in the Derwent Valley. Predominantly whole-berry fermented with a small proportion of whole bunches, the wine is wild fermented and matured in older French oak, allowing perfume, freshness and vineyard character to take centre stage. The nose is beautifully lifted, revealing blackberry, mulberry and red cherry layered with cracked black pepper, violets, dried herbs and subtle savoury spice.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with silky tannins, bright natural acidity and a fresh, elegant structure. Juicy red and black fruits are complemented by peppery spice, gentle herbal notes and a fine mineral edge, leading to a long, savoury finish with impressive balance and finesse. Fragrant rather than powerful, this is a beautifully crafted Tasmanian Syrah that showcases purity, restraint and exceptional drinkability.
