The 2024 Azores Wine Company Verdelho O Original is a remarkable revival of one of the Azores’ most historic grape varieties. Sourced from old Verdelho vineyards on the volcanic island of Pico, the vines grow among black basalt rock just metres from the Atlantic Ocean, protected by traditional stone walls from the relentless sea winds. Led by António Maçanita and his team, Azores Wine Company has played a key role in preserving these ancient vineyards and showcasing the unique wines of the archipelago.
The nose reveals citrus blossom, lemon zest, green apple and white peach, layered with subtle herbal notes and a distinctive maritime character. The palate is vibrant and textural, combining bright citrus fruit with saline minerality, refreshing acidity and impressive concentration. Taut and energetic, it finishes long and savoury, with the unmistakable volcanic signature that defines the great wines of Pico.
