The 2023 Wilfred Sangio is a vibrant Sangiovese from the Willunga foothills of McLaren Vale, South Australia. Grown on mixed clay loams with limestone, ancient rock and weathered sandstone influences, it shows bright red berries and blueberry alongside liquorice, leather and savoury spice.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied and structured, with juicy berry fruit balanced by fresh, well-integrated acidity. Firm tannins provide definition and length, while savoury notes of charcuterie, leather and spice add complexity around a generous fruit core. Indigenous yeast fermentation in a small open fermenter is followed by malolactic fermentation in stainless steel and 14 months in seasoned French oak hogsheads.
