The 2023 Settlement Chardonnay is a refined single-vineyard Chardonnay sourced from the organically farmed Poplars Vineyard in Marlborough's Brancott Valley, neighbouring the renowned Section 94 vineyard. Planted to Mendoza clone vines on alluvial soils over clay, the fruit is handpicked, whole-bunch pressed and wild fermented in French oak, with 15% new barrels, before spending 12 months on lees. The nose is elegant and expressive, revealing baked peach, grapefruit and citrus blossom layered with roasted nuts, subtle vanilla and flinty minerality.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with a creamy texture, vibrant natural acidity and beautifully integrated oak. Ripe stone fruit and citrus are balanced by savoury lees complexity and a chalky mineral line, leading to a long, fresh finish with impressive precision and finesse. Rich yet restrained, this is a sophisticated Marlborough Chardonnay with excellent balance and ageing potential.
