The 2023 La Gibryotte Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru by Claude Dugat is a superb expression of one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most celebrated Grand Cru vineyards. Produced under the La Gibryotte label from a tiny parcel of old Pinot Noir vines, it reflects the Dugat family’s meticulous approach to viticulture and élevage, combining the generosity typical of Charmes-Chambertin with remarkable precision and refinement. The 2023 vintage has yielded a wine of exceptional purity, seamlessly balancing richness, freshness and mineral tension.
The bouquet is captivating and layered, offering aromas of black cherry, wild raspberry and ripe red berries, intertwined with violet, vine smoke, sweet baking spices and hints of forest floor and crushed stone. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with a luxurious, velvety texture, revealing concentrated red and dark berry fruit supported by vibrant acidity and beautifully integrated, fine-grained tannins. Notes of subtle oak, earthy minerality and savoury spice build through the palate, culminating in a long, saline-tinged finish that is both powerful and effortlessly elegant.
Although remarkably harmonious in its youth, this Grand Cru possesses the structure and depth for extended ageing. It is best enjoyed from 2030–2048, during which time it will develop further complexity with nuances of truffle, dried rose petals, sous-bois and exotic spice. An exceptional match for roast pigeon, venison, dry-aged beef, wild mushroom dishes and mature Alpine cheeses.
