The 2023 Gentle Folk Onkaparinga Valley Sangiovese is a single-vineyard Adelaide Hills red from the highest and rockiest section of the Turnbull Family Vineyard in Charleston. Planted in 1998 at around 460 metres elevation, the site produces a fragrant, savoury Sangiovese showing red cherry, dried flowers and subtle fennel, spice and earthy notes.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied and fresh, with lively acidity and fine, structured tannins. The fruit was fully destemmed and fermented before maturation in terracotta and French oak for around 10 months, adding texture and complexity while keeping the bright red-fruit character at the forefront.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent choice for Sangiovese drinkers who enjoy elegant, savoury reds with fresh acidity, fine tannins and restrained oak. Enjoy now or cellar for further development. Ideal with roast lamb, tomato-based pasta, grilled pork, mushroom dishes, pizza or aged cheeses.
