The 2023 Frankland Estate Shiraz is a certified organic red from the family’s estate vineyards in Frankland River, Western Australia. Shiraz from six small parcels and three different clones forms 94% of the blend, with Mourvèdre and Malbec adding complexity. The nose is expressive with ripe plum, redcurrant and raspberry alongside blackcurrant, cracked black pepper, cedar and liquorice.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied and concentrated with juicy dark fruit, fresh acidity and fine, mouth-coating tannins. The parcels were slowly fermented in small open tanks followed by extended maceration, then matured for 12 months in older 500-litre French oak puncheons. The finish is persistent, savoury and spicy, with the oak sitting comfortably behind the fruit.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent choice for Shiraz drinkers who enjoy structured, cool-climate reds with generous dark fruit, peppery spice and savoury complexity. Enjoy now or cellar for further development. Ideal with grilled beef, roast lamb, slow-cooked pork, mushroom ragù or aged cheeses.
