The 2023 Frankland Estate Isolation Ridge Mourvèdre is an organically grown, single-vineyard red from Frankland River in Western Australia, produced from the region’s oldest Mourvèdre vines, planted in 2004. The nose is fragrant and distinctive, showing raspberry, red cherry and blueberry alongside rose petals, orange peel, dried herbs, cumin and a characteristic ferrous, earthy edge.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied and savoury with juicy red and blue fruit, fresh acidity and fine, terracotta-like tannins. The fruit fermented in an open fermenter for 15 days before spending 13 months on lees in older French oak puncheons, preserving freshness while adding subtle complexity and structure. Only around 110 dozen were produced.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent choice for Mourvèdre drinkers who enjoy medium-bodied reds with fragrant fruit, savoury complexity and fine, structured tannins. Enjoy now or cellar for further development. Ideal with grilled lamb, slow-cooked beef, roast pork, charcuterie, mushroom dishes or aged cheeses.
