The 2023 Domaine Jacques Carillon Puligny-Montrachet is a 100% Chardonnay from Puligny-Montrachet in Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune, offering an introduction to this historic family domaine’s style. The Carillon family’s winegrowing roots stretch back to 1520, and Jacques continues that heritage through wines focused on finesse, balance and vineyard expression. The 2023 draws on 11 parcels across seven lieux-dits, with vines averaging more than 40 years old, bringing together different parts of the village into one cuvée. The domaine describes its village Puligny élevage as one year in barrel, with 15% new oak, followed by six months in stainless steel, building texture while preserving freshness.
The 2023 offers lemon, poached pear, white orchard fruit and acacia blossom, with bread-dough and toasted-nut nuances adding complexity. Its generous, rounded palate reflects the vintage’s approachable character, while citrus freshness provides definition through the finish. William Kelley of The Wine Advocate awarded it 88–90 Points in his January 2025 assessment, highlighting its fleshy fruit and open-knit texture. Jasper Morris MW subsequently awarded 90 Points in October 2025, noting floral prettiness, broader palate weight and good length, alongside a little warmth. This is a relatively accessible expression of Puligny, combining immediate fruit appeal with enough structure to benefit from a few years of development.
