The 2023 Domaine Christian Moreau Petit Chablis is a remarkably serious expression of Petit Chablis from one of the region’s most respected family domaines. What makes this wine particularly unusual is the location of its vineyards: the fruit comes from parcels positioned at the top of the Chablis Grand Cru hill, only metres from Grand Cru Valmur, together with another small 0.4-hectare planting above Vaudésir. These exceptional locations give the wine a level of depth and definition rarely associated with the Petit Chablis appellation. The domaine’s vineyards have also been certified organic since 2013, with all harvesting carried out by hand.
The 2023 is bright, chiselled and energetic, showing concentrated citrus fruit, lemon and green apple alongside herbal nuances, crushed stone and a distinctive saline, briny character. Brilliant natural acidity provides drive and precision, while an unexpectedly substantial mid-palate gives the wine impressive depth without sacrificing freshness. At just around 12.5% alcohol, it remains dry, clean and beautifully focused. The domaine described the 2023 harvest as delivering both excellent quality and healthy quantities, with particularly impressive fruit across its Petit Chablis through Grand Cru vineyards.
