The 2023 Château de la Tour Clos Vougeot Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes is a remarkable Pinot Noir from old vines within the historic Clos Vougeot Grand Cru in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits. Produced by Château de la Tour, the largest landowner in the Clos and the only estate to vinify and mature its wines within the vineyard itself, this cuvée displays aromas of black cherry, blackberry and wild raspberry, layered with violet, subtle spice and earthy mineral notes. The mature vines contribute exceptional concentration and depth.
On the palate, it is full-bodied yet finely structured, with silky, well-defined tannins and vibrant acidity supporting flavours of dark berries, forest floor, liquorice and gentle oak spice. The wine is powerful without excess, finishing long and mineral with remarkable precision and balance, promising excellent evolution in the cellar.
Ben's Recommendation: At Wine More Cellars, this is an outstanding Grand Cru Burgundy for collectors and lovers of age-worthy Pinot Noir. Pair it with roast duck, venison, beef Wellington or wild mushroom dishes. While approachable with careful decanting, it is best cellared and will continue to develop beautifully through 2032–2050.
