The 2023 Black Estate Treble Pinot Noir is an expressive Pinot Noir from Waipara Valley in North Canterbury, blending fruit from the Home, Damsteep and Netherwood vineyards. The three hillside sites combine clay, sandstone and limestone-influenced soils, producing a wine with bright red cherry, wild strawberry and cranberry alongside plum, dried herbs, subtle spice and savoury earthy notes.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied and finely textured, with lively acidity supporting juicy red fruit and fine, chalky tannins. The grapes were hand harvested and predominantly destemmed, with a high proportion retained as whole berries, before native fermentation and extended maceration. Nine months in neutral barrels adds texture while preserving the freshness and purity of the Pinot Noir.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent choice for Pinot Noir drinkers who enjoy fresh, elegant reds with silky fruit, fine tannins and savoury complexity. Enjoy now or allow some further bottle development. Ideal with roast duck, grilled salmon, roast chicken, pork, mushroom dishes or semi-hard cheeses.
