The 2022 Vincent Girardin Meursault Les Clous is a beautifully poised Chardonnay from one of Meursault’s most highly regarded lieux-dits. Located on the western side of the village, Les Clous shares the same marl-rich soils found in parts of Corton-Charlemagne, producing wines of remarkable tension, minerality and longevity. Vincent Girardin’s meticulous approach, including indigenous fermentations and 15 months of lees ageing in French oak, allows the vineyard’s character to shine with clarity and precision.
The nose reveals white peach, lemon zest and citrus blossom alongside notes of toasted hazelnut and subtle flinty minerality. The palate is rich yet beautifully focused, combining ripe orchard fruit with vibrant acidity and a pronounced chalky backbone. Hints of almond, lemon curd and crushed stone add complexity, while the finish is long, saline and remarkably elegant. The 2022 vintage offers both immediate appeal and excellent ageing potential.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A superb Meursault that balances classic richness with impressive freshness and mineral precision. Elegant, layered and highly age-worthy, it pairs beautifully with lobster, scallops, roast chicken, turbot and mushroom dishes. Enjoy now with a brief decant, or cellar through 2038–2045 as it develops greater complexity, texture and nuance.
