The 2022 Louis Roederer Camille Hommage Rouge Charmont Coteaux Champenois is a rare still Pinot Noir from a 0.43-hectare parcel in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Champagne. Organically grown and made from 100% Pinot Noir, it shows blackcurrant and blackberry with dried violet, peony and rose, layered with cocoa, vanilla and subtle spice.
On the palate, it is concentrated and velvety with dark fruit, fresh acidity and fine, grainy tannins. A 22-day maceration with 30% whole bunches and spontaneous fermentation is followed by 16 months in French oak, one-third new. Saline, chalky minerality brings definition to the long, savoury finish.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is a fascinating choice for Pinot Noir collectors looking beyond traditional Burgundy and exploring the rare still red wines of Champagne. Its concentration, tannin structure and mineral freshness give it strong potential for further bottle development. Pair with roast duck, veal, mushroom dishes, roast lamb or medium-aged cheeses.
