The 2022 Domaine Jacques Carillon Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Les Perrières is a finely structured 100% Chardonnay from Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune, combining concentrated fruit with the mineral precision associated with this celebrated Puligny vineyard. The Carillon family’s winemaking history in the village dates back to 1520, and Jacques continues that tradition through a small collection of estate vineyards. This cuvée comes from a 0.61-hectare parcel with vines around 40 years old in 2022. The domaine’s élevage comprises 12 months in oak barrels, approximately 20% new, followed by six months in stainless steel, giving the wine texture while preserving its freshness and vineyard character.

The 2022 offers white peach, apple, pear and white flowers, complemented by pastry cream, subtle oak and a chalky, saline finish. There is generosity to the fruit, but the wine retains a focused structure and refreshing acidity. Jasper Morris MW awarded it 93 Points, praising its balance, completeness and mineral undertone. Neal Martin awarded it 92 Points, highlighting its clear vineyard expression, linear palate and neatly integrated oak, while William Kelley awarded it 91 Points, describing a satiny texture and an appealing saline finish. Burghound’s early assessment of 90–93 Points, Outstanding, also emphasised its concentration and youthful restraint, suggesting that some patience would be rewarded.

Ben’s Recommendation:
What appeals to me here is the combination of generous 2022 fruit and Perrières’ chalky structure. It has the depth to make an impression, with enough freshness and definition to keep it beautifully proportioned. I would give it a little more time and aim to drink it from approximately 2028 through 2033, assuming good storage, with 2029 onwards particularly attractive for greater complexity. As it develops, I would expect the orchard fruit to gain notes of hazelnut, brioche and gentle savoury richness. Pair it with lobster, turbot, scallops or roast chicken with a cream sauce. For someone seeking concentrated, mineral-driven Premier Cru Puligny with useful cellaring potential, this is a compelling choice.
