The 2022 Domaine Jacques Carillon Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Les Champs Canet is a beautifully precise and age-worthy white Burgundy from one of Puligny-Montrachet’s most respected independent domaines. Jacques Carillon established his own estate in 2010 following the division of the family domaine with his brother François, and his wines have developed a strong reputation for purity, mineral precision and understated elegance.

Les Champs Canet is one of Puligny-Montrachet’s finest Premier Cru vineyards, situated high on the slope above the village. Its predominantly limestone soils give Chardonnay a distinctive combination of chalky minerality, citrus freshness and finely structured richness. The site generally produces wines that are more focused and energetic than many richer Premier Cru expressions of Puligny.

The 2022 vintage brings an attractive combination of ripe fruit and freshness. The warm growing season produced concentrated Chardonnay, but the best producers retained excellent acidity and balance. Carillon's restrained winemaking allows the vineyard character to remain at the centre of the wine.

The bouquet is elegant and finely detailed, opening with white peach, pear, lemon zest and green apple, followed by acacia blossom and citrus flowers. With air, deeper notes of almond, hazelnut, wet limestone and subtle brioche begin to emerge. There is a gentle smoky/mineral quality beneath the fruit that gives the wine additional complexity without making it overtly reductive or oaky.

On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, concentrated yet remarkably precise, with flavours of white peach, lemon curd, pear and ripe citrus. The texture is silky and rounded, reflecting the generosity of the 2022 vintage, while vibrant acidity and a fine chalky mineral backbone provide definition. Subtle barrel influence contributes almond, toast and creamy texture without dominating the pure Chardonnay fruit.

The finish is long, dry and saline, with lemon oil, white flowers, crushed stone and fine nutty notes persisting. With bottle age, the wine should gradually develop the classic tertiary characteristics of fine Puligny - hazelnut, beeswax, brioche, honey and wet stone - while retaining its underlying freshness.
